Stephen Maestas will be appearing in as Hector in Theatre Group's production of History Boys. Stephen is the recipient of 5 nominations from the Denver Drama Critics Circle Awards, winner of Best Season for an Actor and “Best Comic Actor” from Westword’s Best of Denver. He, happily, returns to the Theatre Group where he has previously appeared as Guadalupe in Women Behind Bars, Father Mark in Tony and Tina’s Wedding, Roberto in Death and the Maiden and Ganesha in A Perfect Ganesh. Stephen has been active in Denver theatre for the last 25 years and has worked extensively with Hunger Artists Theatre Group where he appeared as Hercule Poirot in Black Coffee, Sheridan Whiteside in The Man Who Came to Dinner, and others. He played Pirelli in Bonfils’ 1983 acclaimed production of Sweeney Todd, and was “Bottom” in the Mirror Player’s production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Stephen has also appeared over the years at The Avenue Theatre, The Denver Center Theatre, Aurora Fox, and several other theatres which no longer exist. Stephen would like to thank Steve Tangedal for giving him the chance to play this wonderful role of “Hector.” Stephen would also like to dedicate this performance to Merrill Key, his best friend and “partner in crime” who died in 1994.
